Terry,

Yes, I used to shop at the Andersons. Hadn’t heard their name in years!
I have attached some photos of what I came up with. At the thinnest point I still have over 1/8 of an inch, so certainly there isn’t a lot, however I will never apply that much force directly down on the insert. There are about 8 areas with an adjustment screw where it is that thin, the rest has a deeper lip running all around it. The photos should give you a better idea of what I am describing. That being said, it would be much easier to purchase one. I just like to save money and do things myself wherever possible. This took me about 10 minutes to build.

As mentioned above, you will need to remove the riving knife. With the saw unplugged, reach down inside, there is a rubber coated lever you need to move 90 degrees, you then wiggle the knife up and out. Certainly I would put it back in for ripping.

Eventually I want to add a router table to the right and a portable outfeed table and connect dust collection to the bottom of it. Keep us posted on your progress.
