You can cut open grooves before you cut the
dovetails. Then, instead of a dovetail at the bottom,
you make a pair of little box joints just the thickness
of the material left over after the groove is cut. In
a box with 1/2” sides and a 1/4” deep x 1/4” wide
groove for the bottom set 1/4” up from the bottom,
you would cut a pair of little square 1/4” box
joints at each corner.

You can miter the corner too.
