If edge banding is not very easy to do, I think I would try some Thin Epoxy, mixed with stain or dyes, carefully painted on the Taped-Off edges… Multiple thin coats to get a nice smooth finish…

You’d have to get your mixing Recipe down pat and mix ONLY what is needed for one coat at a time…
