It adds up quick. Building your shop was probably a large part of that 50k. If you really do feel it is sinful, put it to good use. I bet there are a lot of young people (or even old people for that matter) that would love to take free classes at the “Bert School of Woodworking”.

If it makes you feel any better, other hobbies are far more expensive and require travel away from families quite a bit. I still have quite a few friends in the racing scene. Their annual outlay is close to 15,000 to 20,000. They also have nothing to show for it save for a pile of spare parts and the occasional trophy.
