Hello everyone, I purchased a used Unisaw 3 months ago and put it away in storage till I had space in my garage. I was finally able to bring it home yesterday and I noticed a clanking noise coming from the saw. It sounds just like the noise in this youtube video especially between the 0:08 and 0:14 mark:

What's odd is that if I was to lower the blade completely and apply pressure to the handle when it's reached it's lowest point the noise would get slightly louder. I used compressed air to blow out all the packed saw dust and lubricated the gears inside as best I could with WD-40. The noise is there no matter if the blade is tilted, lowered completely or raised to it's peak. Can anyone help?

Sounds like a bad set of arbor bearings. To check:
1. unplug the power.
2. remove the blade
3. remove the belts to motor
4. spin the arbor by hand slowly and feel for roughness.
5. spin the arbor as quickly as you can and watch to see how quickly it stops.

If there is any roughness or resistance to turning, replace the two bearings at a cost of about $18 apiece from NAPA or any store selling bearings. These are sealed bearings and require no maintenance, only replacement.
It's a great saw, easy to maintain if you keep the dust out of it. Use a dry lubricant like graphite on the exposed trunnions, gears, and shaft.

Update.

I removed the arbor and the bearings make a light noise when spun by hand. They move freely, but don't spin for long. While I have the top off I am going to replace the belts and replace the arbor bearings. I did run the motor to rule it out as the culprit but when its almost at a complete stop it makes the same noise as heard in this youtube video. Not as loud (I think) it its the same. The sheave on the motor has no play in it.

Is this something serious?

Your motor has a centrifugal switch inside which switches the starting windings on to start and when the motor gets up to speed it switched these windings off. The motor runs on one set of windings. When you switch the motor off it slows down to about 200 RPM then the centrifugal switch resets it self with an audible click, also the actuator arms rub gently on the actuator making a noise. All of the above is perfectly normal.

Unless the motor has recently been worked on, I would replace the bearings as well. Not a big deal to do. The motor is not the easiest to remove and you will have it out to do the arbor bearings, so it will be the perfect time.
