To counter the drag of a thread asking to be removed I decided to make this thread. List here why you like it here and what keeps you here.
For me it is
the cast of characters many of whom show just how caring they can be on a daily basis.
All the wonderful pieces that I aspire to reach the skill level of, don't want to duplicate but want the ability to make something equivalent.
All the helpful suggestions and pointers when trying to figure out a design or solution.

I belong to a few forums, but this in the only one I really ever post on because it is visually appealing, the moderators are hands-off and it's full of nice people willing to share. I also like the ability to show off projects and see the work of others. No other site has the same sort of galleries. I like the way tool reviews are prominently featured too. All in all there is everything I could ask for here, and any of the things I don't like are a small price to pay for the good I get out of it!

LJs PLUS factors:

  • Access to a multitude of task-specific opinions/suggestions, often WITH an explanation why you should do it this/that way.
  • Ample "humble pie" when I see such fantastic WW-ing that others have and do accomplish.
  • Shared interest in WW-ing, and yes SOME of the social networking can be "positive"
  • Have made local WW-ing friends and WW-ing contacts/sources from having met them via LJs

I get inspired to do projects worthy of posting. I check the new projects gallery at least once a day to see what's new and I check the forums to see if I can add something there. I have noticed that many of my favorited projects are of shop projects like jigs, saw tables, router tables and the like-there are some very creative LJs with great solutions to woodworking situations. Great camaraderie, willingness to share, lots of pride but always with a touch of humility among LJs and good motivation for a relative newbie like me.

When I first started woodworking, I joined several different message boards and websites. This is the only one I've kept coming back to. The people here are, for the most part, very friendly and helpful. A lot of them produce projects that are downright amazing. They give me something to aspire to. I like the overall format of the site. As long as you're logged in, the ads aren't too obnoxious. I like having all the reviews and having the ability to write reviews of my own. Overall, Lumberjocks is a great place!

LJ's rocks in a lot of ways. I joined the site almost 3 years ago and my knowledge base has increased so much from just reading and asking questions its amazing. Rarely does anyone ever get put down around here, theres no primadonnas. Mostly everyone is willing to help out in any way they can.

Ive also made a bunch of e-buddies, whom, if i had the chance in real life, id love to hang out with. Ive receieved a bunch of LJ packages in the mail from a grease box, to a mallet, to a baby rattle, wax cakes and handsaws. Without this place i never would have had these items so proudly displayed in my shop.

Im a LumberJock. Are you?

Real people giving real advice.

I get to see works of art that normally only a few would see otherwise. It opens up your mind to possibilities that i simply wouldn't have thought of otherwise. The really great thing is those creators are actually willing to talk to me.

I have learned from people all over the planet. The thought a year ago of talking to someone in Australia or South America about a common topic was not even a possibility.

It has been a great experience for me.

All of the above but the big ones for me are the ability to share ideas and innovations and the "support group" of fellow woodworking obsessed individuals, many of whom I consider among my good friends and a few of whom I have come to know in person….......................priceless!!

This website is priceless when you compare all of the people who contribute their knowledge, experiences, suggestions and show their talents. I belong to three different forums but this one keeps drawing me back. I really enjoy the people who have made this site what it is and stand in wonder of how far it will go.

I don't even know another woodworker in my area. This site is an unbelievable resource for woodworkers. Can you believe it's free. You can feel the good spirit of so many members ( I'm thinking people like Monte pittman), and the inevitable whining from a few others ( Unfotunately you probably don't know who you are). Just like real life!

Because the best people on earth gather here. Great woodworking projects to admire. Fantastic place to get info. Fun to help others but also to watch some grow. Lots of entertainment on the forum site. And some of the best friends ever. Anyone that doesn't like this place, needs to just leave. Don't make a show of it. Just go

before joining this forum, I spent a lot of time just moseying around it. And after spending time at other sites, this is the best one I found. Think I'll stick around for a while. The collective knowledge here is outstanding, and made all the more valuable by the willingness to share that is so evident. And I really like browsing the projects - talk about inspiration. And the sarcasm, lack of pomposity, is refreshing.

Passion, it is all about the Passion…. The Majority of LJ's here have a passion for Woodworking…. From tools to drool…. There is a Melting Pot of personalities, ideas, styles, knowledge…........... I have been on several other sites and got bored pretty quick and it seemed most had the Vision of a Q=Tip…. Here you see some pretty wild and interesting labors of love.

I like the fact that the membership is so diverse in their experience, ideas and approaches. There is a number of ways to solve an issue or build a project, and my way is often not the best way so I appreciate reading conflicting views or different methods. When I view someones project or post I try to take something from it that will help me become more proficient with my own projects. This could be which glue works best for this, or this joint might work better for that, that sort of thing.
There are a lot of great looking projects posted by friendly people who are willing to share what they often learned through trial and error.

Newbie here :). I stumbled upon this site a few weeks ago while searching Google for a totally UNRELATED topic. Have spent numerous hours on this site already just reading the posts and oogling some of your projects. Tonight I happened on this post and it finally prompted me to sign up!

I'm sure I'll learn a BUNCH, and hopefully I'll actually contribute something USEFUL … but for now I'll just start clicking around and see where some of the other links at the top lead to.

Oh, just realized that I might should start by filling in some of the blanks on my profile. :)

if ya don't like it leave

but i love getting inspiration. I've been on the site for about a year and a half, but haven't been able to do much woodworking the last year or so and this site has kept me going getting ideas for projects I want to do, coming up with tool wishlists, and learning new tricks and methods…LJ is great and I love being a member.

plus it gives me something to do at night
