I personally found Facebook to be a big disappointment. I haven’t the slightest interest in whether someone from a lifetime ago is making pancakes for breakfast (and posting photos for all to see, too). Then again, I might be considered an old fart for not loving all that crap.
You only have to look at a couple of threads here to see there really is social networking going on (HPoYD, Blue Collar Woodworking, Workbench Smackdown, etc.), as well as a knowledge base there’s a jovial interaction with those guys which I think is great.
There’s always something interesting on the forums at LJ’s, there’s a lot to be gleaned in terms of know-how and I always find it fascinating just how many ways you can skin the proverbial rabbit. Don’t forget as well, that running a one-man shop is a lonely occupation – so that interaction is a welcome diversion from all that time you spend with just a piece of wood for company. It is for me anyway.
