I have used the Bessey K clamps for years (including the longer 60”), I have about 70 of them and a few of the newer Revos as well.

Also have long Gross Stabil clamps (98”) as well and never experienced the issue you stated on your footboard in any of my glue-ups.

Did you place clamps “over and under” the lumber to compensate for the cant in the clamps?
I also often use the long edge of the clamping surface to distribute pressure if the material is not too thick.

Did you use cauls?
