Do you have a drill press? If not it is tough to get the sides (outline) of your indent to be perfectly flat with a hole saw but if you’re only going an 1/8 you may be okay. If so, use your hole saw to score the proper depth then freehand rout. Either way, this will give you an error factor of the kerf thickness of the cutter so you don’t have to go to the actual outside of the line.
