We've had one of those Gris sanders since 1994 working everyday. The only thing we do to it is keep it cleaned and change the belts when they wear out.
We had a tracking problem with it last summer. I called Gris support and told them the problem. The person told me the support person that knew that sander well would call me back within the hour which he did. He asked me what it was doing, I told him and he gave me the fix…back to tracking correctly in less than 1.5 hours. 18 year old machine and still kicking like it was when it was new.
We also have one of the newer orbital edge sanders with another brand name and it sands no better than the 18 year old Gris.
If we needed another edge sander I would call Gris and tell them to get that sanded on the truck to me.
The function here will be mostly on a product but I'm thinking for the puny extra cost the wraparound table would be worth it.
Another solution to the challenge would be to up the Ritter to 6". Has anyone done that? Changing the platens would be easy-they're just plywood on brackets-but I'm not sure what I'd be up against in sourcing new wheels.
We used to own the Ritter 4132 and it was a great sander. I happened upon a delta 6132 that was also just a tid bit stronger wo the Ritter sold.
I would think the Ritter should be more then capable. Not sure why you really need the 6" capacity. We mainly use ours for 3/4" edges.
