I’ll be interested to see your bench when you are done. My project this weekend was dismantling my first bench and modifying it to collapse flush against the wall via hinges. It sounds like you already have got some good ideas about outfitting the bench. I was reluctant to take mine apart, but as I did it I thought of all the things I wish I knew or had done the first time. Now I can. One feature I’m keeping is a brace on one of the ends. My camera is out of reach so I hope my words will do it justice. I had to hollow out and area on the underside of then bench so that the bolts from the 2 knobs fit. The brace itself is just a piece of 3/4” hardwood with two vertical slots routed into it. When I need the brace, I just loosen the knobs and slide it up. When I don’t I slide it down. I actually use it as a clamping surface more than a brace.
