One without the other is kinda pointless… The jointer will give you one flat face, and one ajoining square edge.. But then you still have one face and one edge not squared to the freshly jointed sides… Basically this means you will not have square stock, and in woodworking were square is the minimum, you will give yourself headaches trying to build anything…

I would suggest, get a RIDGID 6” planer from Home Depot, and order the 12-13 in planer of you choice (mine is a two knife beast from Grizzly)... You will be amazed with sharp blades how square you can get your stock with these two tools that will cost under 600 bucks- and I have run all sorts of wood though both, easy stuff.

In the end, buy both… You will be happy you did..

Next, you’ll want a 2 stage dust collector…. But you can get buy with a broom, dustpan and shop ac for now
