I have ruined a few pieces of those expensive exotics in the past while experimenting with new sculpting designs on my boxes. I learned quickly to experiment on new designs using flat boards and cheaper woods before attempting the patterns on a box. A few weeks ago I sold 9 of my experimental pieces after cleaning them up, finishing them and turning them into wall hangings….so not a total loss.
