You weren’t really clear on the purpose, though you did say “complement.” So, my bad.

I’d experiment with A/B bleaching the walnut. I’ve had success with this before and will lighten the wood as much as you want. I’d bleach it back quite a bit and then add back color to taste.

Like MNgary said, my first instinct for a different wood choice is butternut, since it structurally looks like a lighter colored walnut.
