Tell us about the current project you have on the bench. With Christmas coming up we might all use some fresh idea's and inspiration.
I'll start it off. My shop is in shambles. All the tools are moved to one side and the oak and walnut have been stacked in the middle of the shop so I can get to the drywall and finish the basement project. My wife has been on my to get that done a while now.
I'll be adding a DC this week which requires a new run from the fuse box.
The project after that is walnut bookshelf 7'x3'x14".
My current project is a 108 year old Victorian home I recently bought. The entire thing is a woodworking project and the best thing is I get to keep everything I do to it. For 30 years everything I have built has gone to live at someone else's house, on this project, everything is for me and mine.
Restoring a 1958 Delta 22-101 13×5 thickness planer. It is all disassembled, most parts cleaned, primed and ready for paint. Bearings have been ordered, still need to purchase new sheaves for the motor and cutter head. Someone had replaced the originals with single groove. That is not enough to transfer the 3hp to the cutter head, so back to a 2 belt system.
I am just about finished setting up my workshop (I just moved). Starting on making some jewelery boxes that have been ordered. After I am sure of the permanent placement of all the equipment I will install my dust collection system.
I'm about 50% through a basement workbench/storage per my wife's request. Maple top and the rest is fir/pine. This will have two fairly large (45" x 26") shelves to store our paint cans, three drawers to store my various interior tools and gadgets (plumbing, electrical, etc.), and a nice large 60" x 30" top that I can use for assembly and finishing in the winter months when it is too cold in the shed. So far the top and shelves are assembled, flattened, and sanded. Next up is to build the apron and drawers, and then begin assembly.
Today (Monday) reworking a styrofoam mirrow frame for a local Co. 42" in dia. needs it 48" have to cut it into 16 pieces and add 4, plus little pieces to fill in the gaps, bondo, sand, primer, sand some more. Has to be perfect so they can use it to make a mold. Have it done by Tuesday am. They pay good so i stopped on 2 mulberry pye safes hooking up a grizzley tablesaw and the DC, refinishing a table.
My shop is always a disaster area. At the moment I'm making a Shaker inspired step stool for my daughter who'll be 3 years old in January. Next up is a chair for her.
what a timely post! anybody ever made a built-in wine rack? In my kitchen island I left a recess 12 1/4" wide x 21 3/4" high at the "L" point (on the outside face). Otherwise it would have been once of those worthless blind corners. We don't drink much wine but friends do and I figured it would work for a few bottles.
Anybody have any ideas? I think standard bottles need 3 1/2" between the uprights (the horizontal rails hold the bottles otherwise that would be way too big). Purchased units are about 11" deep. It's on the corner of the island and the countertop extends far enough that it isn't an issue for me.
I'm in between projects right now. Actually, I got everything but the drawers done for my new shop cabinets 2 months ago, then my daughter was born. Next project is going to be a baby gate, and some Christmas gifts.
Working currently on an aquarium Stand for a friend at work and an entry way table. I started a blog on that one. and I am going to take pictures of the stand.
Just finished carving an apple wood pedestal for one of my sculptures.. and organizing the last of my exotic woods.. and assembled 6 new 36"x48" bas relief box frames..
BUT on the bench… I got a bronze back from the foundry "the Lover", and just finished making the maple wood cones for around her head, but now i have to shape them and add a ton of honey locust thorns..
and I finished preparing the surface of another "the Persuader" and I am working on attaching his elm wood horns to the bronze… my hardest area is the transition from the bronze to the horns requires a lot of carving ferns (as hair) out of Maple and elm… all while keeping in mind the fact that my wood will move and flex and the bronze will not… sigh… he he.
I'm starting on a chest of drawers to go with the bed that was my last project. I'm at the stage now where I'm trying to clean up the last mess so I can make a new one.
Kreegan - are you planning vertical or horizontal storage for your wife? Mine started complaining that her legs were getting tired when I tried storing her vertically.
A router table! I finally got around to making on. I'm going to work on a coffee table when the router table is done, and after those projects are done, I plan on making a crosscut sled for my TS.
working on a 11×14 picture frame that i can't get the miters correct which is the story of my life.and at the same time i'm designing a new layout for my shop and adding my dc system.
