By finish you mean glue together, sand down, then cut? Not glue together, sand down, finish and then cut – as Roger seems to think.
You could do that, but don’t do any final sizing/edge routing until you’ve cut it all up and put it back together again – using the hardware – especially if the extension is done with butterfly leaves. The reason to do this is to take into account the saw kerfs and clean up,and to keep the edge perfectly inline.
