I’ve had mine for a little over 2 years and I can’t say I’ve had any problems with chip build-up there. I second Joe’s suggestion to take a good look at the plastic shields; perhaps one is missing, broken, or not seating properly.

How does the chip ejection blower work? Maybe you get buildup because the chips are not being ejected properly?

You could also take it in to a service center if there’s one close; it shouldn’t be packing with chips.
