Handtooler – I sent an email to Grizzly and I got some advice from their technical staff to wade through the various features. I had been leaning toward the G1023RL anyway. This helped me to lean more in that direction. I had also been looking at G0562Z 3hp dust collector but it’s sold out and discontinued and replaced by the G0562ZP, which is made in China. (I’m not that keen on the Polar Bear series because it’s made in China. Don’t get me wrong, I realize a ton of stuff is made in China and sometimes we have no choice but to choose between several items that were all manufactured in China.) I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Taiwanese made Grizzly tools. Now it appears they’re moving production to China from Taiwan.

Also, there is the G1023RLW and the G1023RLX. The RLW has the router table. I’m thinking of getting the Grizzly router extension table like HorizontalMike did. As for the RLX, I prefer adding a router table instead.

I’m hoping to finalize my decision within a day and order. So here’s how it went.

Kyle of Technical Service at Grizzly sent me the following chart:

After receiving an email with the above chart, I sent an email asking the following questions:

Can you explain two comparison features between G0690 and G1023RL from the chart you sent? What is the difference between “Triple V Belt” and “Serpentine Drive Belt”? What is the difference between “Worm Gear and Trunnion” and “Gas Strut Assisted Leadscrew”? In each of these is one better than the other?

I got this response from Vince of Technical Service at Grizzly:

Thank you for your prompt reply.

The blade elevation of the G1023RL Series allows for less gearing to allow the riving knife to stay properly positioned with the blade. The less moving parts there are, the more reliable the machine is because there is a lesser chance of anything occurring to cause issues. The serpentine belt system allows for even and increased belt tension which prevents any remote chance of belt slippage.

In my opinion, the leadscrew with gas strut and serpentine belt are the engineering better choices for these machines. If I were choosing between these two series of table saws, I would purchase the G1023RL Series.
