So I was thinking this morning about what is on my to-do list as far as woodworking projects. We just had our first child on August 16th, so time in the garage has plummeted. Items are being added to the list faster than they are being knocked off (this was the case before the baby, but not as lopsided).
My List (not necessarily in the order my wife would approve of):
- Doors/Drawers for shop cabinets. Finished the carcass/top the day before our baby was born. Doors I can live without, but cabinets aren't as useful without drawers.
- Baby gate (actually looking forward to this one, going with walnut/maple).
- Shelves for laundry room.
- Pull-out bottle rack for kitchen cabinet.
- Need to replace failing MDF shelves in garage for paper towel, cleaning supply, etc storage (could turn this out in a couple hours if…well…I had a couple hours).
- Various pieces (clamp rack, table saw blade storage, etc) for my garage wall cleat system.
- Recipe box for the Mrs.
- And then tack on the long list of projects I'd like to try and jigs I'd like to build to do those projects.
Get my shop running:
Complete the rebuild on my Belsaw planer.
Adapt the Unifence rail to fit my PM66…adapt my Rockler router table to fit the PM66. Bulild an outfeed table
Complete the stand for my Craftsman disc/belt sander. It has a stand, but I want a wooden base with casters
Repaint my lathe
Finish repainting the Grizzly shaper I just picked up
Once that's done (maybe another month or so), here's the actual wood working list:
Start on some small boxes and a mantel clock for the woman that gave me much of my shop equipment
Spend more time on the lath
Build a Pennsylvania Spice Box
Start building a loft bed for the youngest tax deduction
Build more band saw boxes
Spend more time on the lathe
Start building a sewing center for the missus
Next summer…a kitchen rebuild. I'm scared.
Spend more time on the lathe…
Some briefcases to transport pistols for 1 son.
A long gun cabinet for the other son.
Jig saw puzzles for the grand kids.
A copy Carver for me.
Some jewelry boxes just because.
Add some ducts for DC
New end tables for the living room in the greene and greene style, been reading so much about this style
Coffee table for living room
Kitchen cabinets for sons new home
New entertainment center, but unsure of the TV that we're going with
A few cutting boards for xmas (first glue-up is done)
Murphy bed (this would be the second one we have, more grandkids on the way and I'm lovin it!)
Scrub plan, have a small pile of some exotics, and fellow LJs have given me some great new ideas
I've done 4 acoustic guitars, time for another one.
Outdoor bench for a friend
Garage shelving for a friend
Wishing well planter for mother-in-law
Just recently moved, waiting patiently for my new shed/workshop to be installed. Then moving my tools from Fla to NC and setting up, yet again, another woodworking shop. This time, however, I will not be building for customers. This time I will build things for my family, friends and loved ones. Oh yeah, and ME!!!
Bedside tables for both my daughters
Bookshelf for my yougest
Out-feed table for TS
wall cleats in shop
shop cabinets
garage shelving
basement shelving
daughters desk (almost done with)
daughters chaulkboard (almost done with)
kitchen table for our kitchen
chairs for table
outdoor table and chairs
another ladder shelf
floating shelfs
dresser
laundry basket holder
miter saw stand
outfeed table for ts
sandpaper holder
saw blade holder
oh my god what has my hobby turned into.more work for myself.
I made a small batch of wooden cutting boards to sell at work, which sold out in 2 days. Since then, my email has been flooding with custom orders.
I've got 10 custom orders at the moment, and a few others who said they wanted just some standard boards that I can make production style. And it's not even close to christmas yet when I expect a bigger rush. So, I'm getting busy.
-Complete the interior of the tool chest refurb
-Complete the wall hung tool cabinet
-Build an entry foyer bench / cabinet / locker setup in the house (BIG project)
Plus, replace leaky windows of the shop with new ones. Yuck.
First i have to finish organizing the shop including building some cabinets and shelves while currently working on redoing the dining room, kitchen and hall floors. Any body good at organizing/arranging a 2 car garage shop?
Then finish the powder room.
Does restoring tools count? Brad listed them so i guess i will.
Restore a 4" jointer and a bench top lathe
Repair a 14" bandsaw
Acquire a bench top grinder
Build an aquarium stand
make some band saw boxes
sharpen some lathe tools
make handles for some chisels
A building block set for mini me
A rocking horse for mini me
A knife block for the kitchen
And so on and so forth …
New mailbox post out of a free 10×10 x 144 treated beam. It weighs about 350 lbs! I am thinking about possibly doing a Greene and Greene sort of thing on steroids. Giant Blacker house bracket and some oversized square pegs maybe. Just have no idea what to do for the top of the post yet.
Finish building my 12" jointer from woodgears
Molding for my mom
Bandsaw box for the girlfriend (just need a 1/8" blade)
fix the shop toilet
build an ipad holder
figure out why my dust goes through the ducts but not into the collector
Finish my 12" jointer
Try a end-grain cutting board
Make a TV stand for a costomer
I'm actually working on a chest of drawers that I'm going to post as a blog when I'm done. I can't wait because I already have a good amount of pictures and it's been the most challenging thing I've ever made.
Ed,
ALWAYS move projects projects for your wife to the top of your list and use each of those projects to justify the purchase of a new tool. LOL
I'm right there with ya, Art. Every project starts with a "Oh, well, I'm going to need…" I'm going to use the baby gate to justify the purchase of a new drill press. There's going to be a bunch of mortises, and I'd rather just be cleaning them up with a chisel than doing them all by hand. I made some MDF daisies for the wall of my daughter's room, so along with $8 in MDF, I had to get a $18 keyhole router bit. She says "Do you need that to finish the daisies?" and I said "Yep. Gotta hang them somehow."
