OK, I just ordered a box of 100 Metric DIN 7985 18-8 Stainless Steel pan head machine screws, M3-0.5 thread size, 35MM length, fully threaded.
This is typically the screw that guitar builders use to hold pickups in certain applications, although most plastic pickguards would use a flat head SS screw in a tapered hole. I can get away with these panheads in my wooden pickguards as long as the stainless steel looks good and polishes up.
The cost was $8.08 per hundred, and they added $4.99 shipping for a total of $13.07, and delivery of October 1-12th.
When I can get these at Ace Hardware locally or my local bolt jobber, who around here has the best metric selection, they usually run about .18 apiece in zinc. That would come to $18.00, so this is not too bad.

By the way, the free shipping on orders over $50 is a limited time offer.
