Of all the vaccs I have owned, the 14 gal Ridgid is the best I have used (I currently have 3 of them!). I do the panty hose ‘pre-filter’ and find it works well. Just bumping the vacc against the shop floor knocks most of the dust off the panty hose and restores suction. I can’t explain why the 14 gal model sucks more than the 16 gal with the detachable blower but it does. I returned the 16 gal model the same day I bought it. Just my experience; your mileage may vary.
