I would bet it is worth the 200.00 your wife gave for it. I probably would keep it myself. I started with the DW735, then a Jet 15” and now the Woodmaster 725 and none of mine were perfect. My feelings are none of the planners are going to be perfect and so finish sanding will be required but I am sure the Craftsman planner will do fine dimensioning lumber for you. My biggest concern would be longevity with the Craftsman product but if not abused it should serve you well until you are able to get a stronger unit.
