I’d buy it. I have an even older 4” Craftsman jointer. Works great. I’ll probably upgrade to a 6” in the near future. I see them fairly often for anywhere between $50-$250. Of course, anything over $150 is a seller that is clearly dillusional or completely ignorant to the value of 30+ year-old crafty jointers.
As mentioned, don’t buy parts from Sears. I bought new bearings for my jointer from Sears ONLY because I thought I was more likely to get the correct part. I feared an aftermarket supplier would send me ill-fitting or inadequete parts. I paid twice the price for this peace of mind and to lessen my chances of getting jerked around. What did I get?
A box arrived 9 days later (an eternity in the modern era), with ONE bearing and a packing slip that said “the remainder of your order is not in stock. We will automatically fill your order when new stock arrives in 30-60 days.
Sears CS did nothing to satisfactorily remedy the situation. I asked that they pay the return shipping and canccel the order. They told me the part was non-returnable but did agree to cancel the remainder of the order.
I then ordered the bearings from an aftermarket supplier. They arrived three days later and fit/work great.
