I have a single trunion machine, the dado is a large metal disk with with cutters that have 4 sides that can be rotated to expose a new and sharp edge when the dado set shows signs of being dull. However, these cutters are not indexed or at least not that easy to adjust and once you move them (like I did for a sharp edge) they become misaligned and then the resulting dado is poor. My bosch tablesaw with a cmt dado set cuts much better dadoes and takes much less time to set up.

I have had my machine for 8 years now, I really could have done with a c731 with a 4 foot slider and had some extra room, the other part of the machine that is diffucult to use is the shaper, the fence is heavy and awkward to lift on and off the machine and it ties up the table saw when your using it. I have a second table saw , a mitre saw and I am building a large router table which is really duplicating the machine functions .

After having a second table saw I would not be without it, I like to keep it set up for ripping or dadoing and the felder for something else. The large router table will be great for small routing jobs and I will use the shaper with a (router spindle and power feeder for running trim and molding) which it does a good job at.

The things I like about the machine, no vibration, the slider is solid and precise, the 16 inch jointer/ planer with tersa heads is a snap when it comes time to change the knives, the mortising table works great.

Would I buy felder again yes, but I would a get dedicated tablesaw and 12” j/p , with my own router table if I had it to do over.

Mike
