I bought my son a Woodfast minilathe. The price was good and it had a lot of great great features including indexing with a simple spring loaded plunger on the headstock. You can buy it with pulleys to change speed or for more money you can get one equipped with variable speed. All the fittings were including the tailstock and banjo were well designed and worked real well and you can buy the SuperNova 2 chuck which will fit it without an adaptor. The only slightly clunky thing about it is the belt/pulley cover on the manual speed control model which takes a little more time than it should to open and close it. Maybe you could figure out a way to improve it. Otherwise I’m sure there are quite a few good mini-lathes out there that are also quite good.
