Maybe life is different with a spiral or helical head, but I don’t count on finish ready with straight blades. A smooth finish off the planer is nice, but is very short lived. One nick in those DW blades and you’ll have ridges….it’s gonna happen… sort of a way of life with planers. I don’t consider the finish from a planer to be actually be finish ready….I almost always do some sanding or scraping before applying a finish, so as long as the finish off the planer is “good nuff”, getting to the gnat’s eyelash of perfection off the planer doesn’t really matter to me.
