G'day

Yes it's kinda early for the elections but let's take a page out of the national scenes & get out the vote for our latest contest. Lets show some love for the imaginative and serious hard work some LJ's have done this for this summertime challenge..

I have no vested interest in this one, no project to show, no bosom buddy of mine entered, but I really do hope people will take the time to consider these entries and pick their favorites. And think about it, $500 buys a lot of wood-shop sunshine for your dark horse!

I covered this ground before after the last contest ended and think we can do much better as a social group this time out.

Note: Personally, I believe projects created just for this contest should be considered first, but, tick away LJ's.

Good topic Gene and I'm with you on the "made for the contest" entries considered first. I entered an existing one simply because a couple of weeks in, there were almost no entries. Now that there are several new entries I would happily withdraw mine.

There are two problems here.
First these contests need more entrants and second they need more votes.

Please lets all show these entries a little respect and at least vote for one… just not mine.

Next contest lets see fifty entries. How hard can that be ? It represents one entry per thousand members!!

Personally, I believe projects created just for this contest should be considered first…

Since, as the lawyers would say, "the door was opened", my metric for judging the competitions has always been:
  • To favo(u)r amateurs over professionals
  • To favo(u)r home grown, innovative designs

Paul, I was not trying to single anyone out, least of all yourself. Quite embarrassed by that. I had noticed that there had not been very many entries when you posted and in fact compared to last time not many all together (70 vs 18) so I applauded your creation of interest. My comment was a general one.
KnickKnack - (u) have an interesting criteria base but I don't think there is any such thing as a professional in this work, just people that have been at it longer than others. With all the hesitation and mistakes I make I'd put myself in the "amateur's" camp forever! Besides, amateur means love of the craft and so we all qualify.
eddie - think you'll being getting way more than one for your entry.

Now we just need to think of a way to keep this on the first page of "Forum Topics" for the next week.
Ideas.
Anyone?

So what are the rules? Where do you enter your project? I must be missing something.

A bit late for this competition, but not to vote!
See here.

Thanks for the update. Also did not know it was happening. Maybe it should be a generated email to all LJ's. Looked at the rules, I've not posted any projects, have to have one personal project or you cannot vote. It's great to get the "Big Cash Prize" to pay for some of that highly figured wood or new tool.

I'm still back here in the Gallery, applauding.

Oh man. I just voted. That was HARD - there are many teriffic projects in there. Thanks for the heads up Gene!

It is too bad this is in the off topics - I would not have seen it except that I got an email that my buddy vipond33 has started a new forum post about voting. My own fault I suppose - I don't visit the home page much, I stay around the pulse. But that may be why not as many people have voted as should considering the number of active members.

I have voted!

Thank you for the Link / Reminder!

Very nice bunch to choose from… They were all very good… It took some REAL study time to decide!

Good Luck to you all that entered…

All of you deserve a prize of some sort!

Wonderful work!

So, I was reviewing the projects, using the metric I described above, and something was niggling at the back of my mind about this project.
Despite my steadily diminishing brain cell count I have a pretty good memory for some things, and that just looked familiar. Sure enough I found the identical picture on the woodcraft site.
Something is not on the up and up here - have woodcraft stolen "her" project? Or perhaps backyardspaces did? Heaven forfend that gcwoodworks did.

Good catch KnickKnack - that photo struck me as odd - it almost looks like a photo of a photo, but apparantly it was just an enlarged thumbnail.

You probably know about TinEye.com which will match photos to others on the web - these show up there in many places too. (I know that from being an admin on a photo site where we had to make sure people were only posting their own images)
