I think you should look on eBay for some old Stanley bailey planes, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money you can get a number 3,4 or 5 for under 20 dollars including shipping if you find the right one they are always on there. Learn how to restore them and you will have a very nice plane and will know exactly how and why they work.
