featherboard placement for grooving jig..

Hello all, have had little time for much more than a quick browse to grab inspiration so this is my first post in a long while..

I'm putting together a jig to make life easier when cutting grooves for frame and panel pieces on my woeful craftsman "contractoir" table saw.. more of a secondary top and guide system than a jig I suppose, a flat mdf surface with a micro adjustable fence as I have a number of grooves to cut and got tired of faffing with the unstable and inaccurate fence and a multitude of clamps when setting up my cuts.

My question relates to the featherboard I want to fit to the set up. It would seem to me that as the jig is to be used solely for cutting grooves and there will never be any cut offs to get pinched on the blade the FB could be (and may be best?) placed directly opposite the blade, to be sure that the workpiece is kept flat against the fence as it passes the blade… to me this seems preferable to placing it before the blade as is necessary for safety with any through cuts.
Any comments as I can't decide if this is a)safe and b) beneficial.. ?? I look forward to seeing what folks here think on this..

Hi Charlie, guess you replied whilst I was posting my thanks to Joe.. I was thinking of placing one thick featherboard a little wider than the length of exposed blade at normal groove cutting heights directly aligned with the blade, rather than before and after.. Joe seems to agree this would work best for grooving operations so I'm going to set it up that way unless anyone else has direct experience suggesting otherwise..
