You can use a single roller stand for outfeed support as long as it’s set dead even with the outfeed bed.

Another thing that helped me is lubricating the jointer beds with Bostik Glide Cote or similar. Less feeding pressure is required, and seems to give better control at the jointer.

If that doesn’t work, do what I did and upgrade to a DJ-20. I think you could joint an eight footer on that beast.
