I think it’s a bit large for a total floating shelf seems you might need a knee brace on the open end.

You can still give it the floating shelf look by building a decorative knee brace. You wouldn’t need any metal brackets either. Secure a 2×2 on both walls, secure the table to the supports and the knee brace on the end.

I m trying to picture what you mean by the knee brace. Are you referring to a wooden bracket/brace kinda like this below?

Yes that is a knee brace, it would also support the wait of kids sitting on it, still no need for any metal bracing as long as the 2×2’s are tightly screwed into wall studs and not sheet rock anchor bolts and the knee brace was also tied to a stud.

I’m pretty sure just metal bracing would bend over a short period of time, unless you got some bulky large industrial kind and that prob wouldn’t look very good.

A knee brace and corbel are both one in the same only difference is that a knee brace is a bit larger and beefier, if you are creative you can make a very nice looking one.
