I have the Pro versions. I do a lot of architectural illustration modeling and rendering the the Skp plug in Vray. I tend to layout many different components in cad first and import into sketchup. That used to be a free plug-in (you can still find it if you have an older version (7 I think)). I was super surprised at the news, too.
I started playing with Sketchup with v3.0…free 8 hours. Same with v4.0
I bought Sketchup before Google did…version 5, and paid $450 for it. I got a free upgrade to 6.0, and paid again to upgrade to v7.0. That's where I'm going to stay.
