I switched to the Rigid Trim Router about 3 months ago for carving 1-2” outset letters to get more precise control. Have not fired up my old router since. I like the clear plastic base and the open front and back really helps with lighting.

I did get my finger inside once and got thwapped by the collet nut. Not dangerous for me because I use 1/4 inch straight and v-groove bits that look like drill bits. The back opening had a clear plastic safety guard which I – of course – had removed. I finally got tired of cedar dust flying everywhere so I used the plastic cover to attach a vacuum hose to my shop-vac. No more dust at all and my bits run cool and clean… and no fingers inside. It is an absolute must have modification. Next mod will be to JB-Weld some drawer pulls on the side like a big router.

Only thing I wish is that I could use 1/8” and 1/16” bits for the really detail work.
