What's with the "Facebook Shares"?!?

So I love this site, and I really enjoy when I post a completed project and a handful of people comment on it and give me some constructive and positive feedback…but as I'm looking at the project page, after only a few comments, I notice that the little "Facebook Share" thing above the comments has 40 (!!!) shares!
What is up with that?!? Who shares something that much and doesn't have something to say about the original posting? Is this a "Ted's Woodworking" kind of thing? Am I just an egotist, and I want people to say how nice my completed project is…and THEN tell all their friends…that I don't know? What is up with this? Check YOUR projects and see how many people have "Shared" it. Am I missing something?
Feelin' like I'm out of the loop. Thank you for any insight that you might have.

Snowy, only one of my projects has facebook shares, it happens to be the only one that has made it to the daily top 3 and so the only one that has been posted on the LJ facebook page (seems logical that).

So I am guessing that people have "liked" the LJs facebook page, which causes them to see the project when they log into facebook even if they don't log into LJs itself. Most likely they do not even need to be a member of LJs to like the LJs facebook page. So when they see the projects that they appreciate, they hit the share button in facebook.

What is surprising though is that people are hitting the share button rather than the like button. My project, for example shows 37 facebook shares (and 8 tweets!), but the facebook page shows that nobody has "Liked" it. I think the difference is that facebook shows who has liked the post, but it does not show who has shared it, so sharing rather than liking gives breater anonimity.

As I said, I'm just guessing. Hopefully someone will reply with a definite answer.

I personally don't use facebook and could care less about facebook. I think what it is, is if your a facebook member you don't have to join sites that are facebook members to comment on projects or other items.
Many times while doing searches a facebook link will come up on something and while you can view the article you can't comment unless your signed in as a facebook member.
I prefer to go to the original source when ever possible.

Tootles, I think you're probably right. Both my projects on here have some shares and 1 tweet a piece. Both of them were also daily top 3 (which gets an automatic share and tweet if I remember correctly?).

I didn't even take note, or notice that the icons were there even, until I read your post, Gabe. Something interesting I guess.
