I had a similar issue with Sawmill Creek, I blogged about it here some time ago.

They’re like the woodcutter looking for the forest but unable to find it because there are too many trees in the way. They claim to want a forum where woodworkers can get everything they need, but they refuse to allow free expression.

Try to put a tool review on there! Won’t happen because they will accuse you of getting paid by the tool company to do the review.

Try to post a YouTube video...better make sure that YouTube doesn’t put an add at the bottom of your video because Sawmill Creek will lose their minds over that!

Have a nickname? You’d better know someone because only the moderators and their buddies get to use them over there. Even if you register in your real name and use it on your profile, you will get in trouble if you just refer to yourself occasionally by a nickname.

If someone asks a question about where to get a tool, you’d better not respond because you will then be accused of advertising for Woodcraft, etc. (Stinks when someone is looking for a good deal on a scraper or something and you can’t put up a link to the Woodcraft ad that has them for half off.)

Want to show someone a tool or project on an outside site? Better not link to it because if there is an ad anywhere on that site you’ll get a butt kicking from the moderators.

They want their forum to be an isolated little kingdom where they have full control of what you buy, what you talk about, and what other woodworking content you see.

I was a contributing member (that means I gave them money). But when I did a video review of the Worksharp 3000 they accused me of being on the Worksharp dole, as if that is the only reason anyone would review a tool. Then they openly mocked me and my videos, emailing me and telling me they didn’t think the videos were funny, or useful. I asked how telling me that was at all useful, and they denied it, as if I was an idiot and didn’t have their emails right in front of me. (I know I called you an idiot, but I didn’t call you an idiot…)Then they said I had an attitude problem. These are the moderators! They have a private forum only they access and they actually told me that they spent the previous evening mocking me among themselves.

The funny thing was, I never advertised anything. I registered under my real name, and never referred to “Stumpy Nubs” except in my videos. I didn’t link to my website, I didn’t offer any of my sketchup plans for sale. I never said anything controversial, not even to them, not even when they were insulting me like little children. They just decide they don’t like you and that’s that.

Needless to say I demanded my account closed and my posts removed. They couldn’t understand why?

Maybe they thought I was small potatoes. I suppose I am. But the thousands of people who tune in to Blue Collar Woodworking every week will never hear me promote Sawmill Creek, I can tell you that much…

Lumberjocks, on the other hand, gets lots of plugs from me. And I know of more than a few who have joined this site after I promoted it through one of my contests, Facebook posts, or Tweets. I also know of several who have left Sawmill Creek after hearing of my experience.
