well the first one is a swinging cradle when i think of the ones i like I think of Sam Maloofs it was a great cradle and would be fun and difficult to copy but a great item that will last through the entire generation and then a few more .

Second would be a really fine rocking horse Wood Magazine did one about 20 years ago that was fantastic I am sure they sell the plans great for a second or third birthday gift

And when they turn 5 a great set of Lincoln logs they sell the router bit to make these they used to sell it at rockler it was a great project i made for my own children but would be a great grandfathers gift too

then around 8 years old a custom ash baseball bat is the ticket or a soft ball bat for the little grand daughter these are fun gifts i have made and i would have to go look for film photos to share so it is likely i wont find them any time soon the maloof cradle is on sams site I believe its still up
