Those long rails cost a lot to ship too… they are oversized and
come in a box with masonite faces.

Anyway, you do have a point about the Festool system and really
while the rails work with the routers and jig saws, sort of, they
are really just for the saws. Other manufacturers make rail
saw systems and there is some ability to mix and match:
Festool, Makita, DeWalt, Mafell and Bosch are all currently
making saw and rail systems with varying levels of brand-to-brand
compatibility. Then there is the Eurekazone system which
has some really good ideas incorporated in the designs.
