The manual Richard linked to above is the wrong one – that is for the 2030N, which is a completely different animal. The manual for the 2030 can be found here: Makita 2030 Planer-Jointer Instruction Manual

Also, was there ever a custom blade height set-up tool manufactured with this machine?

Yes… two hardwood blocks (Approx: 3/4”x3/4”x5”) You can make your own, it’s just two pieces of wood. This machine has about the easiest to change kinves on the planet. See the diagrams in the manual for directions.

PS: the directions of feed change because for the jointer, the cutter-head is under the wood, for the planer, it’s above the wood.
