I think that, even with the “store bought” jigs, you could easily mark the centerline of the dado on the fixture. Unless you always cut the same width dado having pieces of wood with dados already cut would only work if dados to be cut were that same width.

I know that the base on my Dewalt D-handle is exactly 6 inches so, I align my guide 3 inches from the centerline of my intended dado and VIOLA! it’s where I want it to be (as long as I keep the router based pushed tight against the guide …… don’t ask me how I know that).
