Another angle: Check Carter’s aftermarket guides and see if that saw is listed.

Yet another: If the pieces are still there, would he let you cart them to a machinist to see what it would cost to fabricate anew? It might still be in the bargain category. Also in showing that amount of interest, you might find out if his price is soft at all.

I once owned a Delta that had a similar previous life, and it was as new. There’s not much tool abuse goes on in upholstery shops where they mostly cut foam!
