Uh John…the -670 is a direct drive saw…how did you run it “with the belts on”? There is very little you can do to fix this type of motor, beyond brushes and bearings. it sounds as though the commutator(the copper piece the brushes rub against is failed). You can try cleaning it up with an abrasive pencil eraser, but if the gaps(Black lines) are bridged with melted copper, it’s toast. This would call for a replacement of the armature, which if available would be pretty spendy, not too mention a major PITA.
