The subject of benchtop planers comes up on these pages often.

If there is a consensus, I believe it is this – The DeWalt 735 is a great planer – perhaps the favorite if price is not an issue. The DeWalt 734 is a very good planner at a much lower cost. I’m a relatively active hobbyist, but not a pro. I stand with those who think that the 734 is more than adequate and, on a benefit/cost basis, I think it is preferable to the 735.

I don’t mean to disrespect the Ridgid or any other brand. I just have no experience with them.

FYI – I have owned a 733 (predecessor to the 734) for over 10 years of virtually flawless operation. It has never let me down.
