After I milled this piece I wrapped it in shrink wrap. It will need a few months of slow drying to prevent checks. I always keep ebony wrapped til use and wrapped unused portion. After a years or so, it can be left unwrapped.
I LOVE the Chocolate & Golden swirls of color in this wood! It polishes up nicely and looks like layered glass, especially a piece like this with lots of golden yellow in it.
Off shoot : A "chunk" of wood not good for anything except turning. A short stub of left overs. The short end of the stick. Something that gets thrown in the fire wood pile. Anything . . . . . . . . . . . . etc.
I really dont have anything left after I mill. I've been milling for years. But I can send you some small logs that I dont see worth milling. 5-6" diameter x 20" but you may only get some pen blanks if you can manage cutting logs. Just pay the shipping. FedEx. Let me know if you want them.
I've purchased several items from you in the past and will do so in the future. I like the way this wood mills-it is very dense and heavy. A friend told me it is also known as Texas Ironwood.
JPBatts, actually Guayacan is Texas Ironwood. A friend told me about it. He owned a nursury here in The Valley and basically knows alot about local woods. Hes retired now in his 70's or 80's. Its rare but can be found away from city.
