In this situation I use canned air like you blow off your keyboard with, strong enough to remove all the dust and see what you have.


Hi Folks!
As detailed is some of my earlier posts, I m refinishing a 100 year old stair rail (and newels). I ve removed multiple layers of paint and varnish and plan to lightly hand sand it to get the final layer of color off. The only way to dertermine that I ve sanded enough is to wipe the sawdust off to see the results. I understand wiping with water is a no-no. If I vacuum most of the dust, is wiping a cloth dampened with mineral spirits the best way to remove dust? Or alcohol? There s a lot of answers out there on this topic, but I m trying to see if there s a consensus on this message board perhaps.
