Help on extending a fence length

I just bought a T2 30 for my Delta Contractors Saw Model 34-444. It had a 44 inch fence length and I would like to extend the rails on the new one so I can cut larger pieces. Has anyone done this? If so what method did you use and did it work well for you. Any problems? It has the steel table extensions.

I might be wrong here but isn't cutting something that large going to be difficult on a contractor TS because of the comparatively small table?

Just buy some square tubing the same size as supplied for the T2 and drill it to fit your saw. You'll have to make some sort of auxiliary support or else it will tip the saw over if any weight at all is placed on the over-hang.

But - I agree with Mark, that is way too big for a contractor saw.

Mark & Joe,
Sorry fellows I didn't think to mention that this is my shop saw and I had tables to both sides and out the back of the saw. I can cut a 4×8 sheet quite easily with it. However, I do sometimes cut wider on the right side than the fence will go thus the question. I'll post a picture when I get it all set up again (shop totally torn up right now) which may be a while.

It sounds like a simple solution and I really thank you for the replies and the warning of a possible danger under normal circumstances. I will check out the size needed Friday. Larry

I have an older Delta contractor saw, with the uni fence and I installed the 52" rails, with accompanying table and legs, and it works great. The main saw has cast iron table wings and a cast iron router top attached, so it's plenty heavy. +1 on Joe's suggestion for your fence type.
