0 ZERO for approximately 7,000 students

I taught wood working and cabinetmaking to approximately 200 high school students a year for 35 years with 3 Delta unisaws in operation every school day. These statistics are a result of demonstrating exactly how and why dangerous kickbacks occur. I spent 2 to 3 days in the beginning of every semester covering all aspects of how to safely operate the table saw on just the basics in ripping and cross cutting. I was so fortunate that in my 35 year teaching career not one student sustained any type of injury on any of our extensive collection of wood working machinery. Each student was tested on each machine’s safe operation before they were able to operate them. They could not pass the courses without being a competent machine operator. Many of my students reported back to me how they had shown their fathers the correct operation mostly on the table saw. Hundreds of these students are now local contractors and hobby wood workers with no accidents that I am aware of still after all these years. Safety is in the hands of the machine operators.
