Caution: Water and oil don’t mix.
Putting a water-based finish on top of an oil layer may not work.
I’d try it on a piece of scrap before finalizing.

Also, try a sealing coat of shellac between the BLO and final finish.

Note: The factors that effect BLO drying time include:
  • Species of wood
  • Surface prep of wood
  • Moisture content of the wood
  • Room humidity
  • Room temperature
  • The oil itsself, e.g. freshness, driers contents, etc.
