I pondered the same question when I was building my bench, then I stumbled across an alternative. Assuming you bench will have four legs, say 4×4 post type leg. During assembly, I used some scrap carpet under legs so I would not scratch the floor when sliding around. Ends up that was my solution. Just glued some 3.5” squares of carpet, face down on bottom foot of post and works great. Has enough friction to keep in place, but can still be slid against wall with reasonable force. Maybe this would work for you or someone else too.
