I am not familiar with the General. I have had the PM for a few years and like it a lot. The fence and hold-down are very solid. If you have not done so, it would probably help you decide if you could play with them both in person.

Whatever you decide, my one bit of advice is to get quality chisels. If the chisels that come with the General are like the blades that come with many machines, you will end up replacing them anyway. I did not look at the review you linked to – perhaps this addresses the chisel quality. In a case like this, I prefer to buy the machine without the cutting parts and buy my own as needed for a particular task.
