Well just started learning how to use this thing, (flattening my bench top) and one wrong move later….

I've been meaning to get some of those rubber mats…

I paid $28 for this on Ebay, I really liked it once I sharpened it up. I hope it was only worth $28, even so I feel like poo.

Is that a Freud router bit. That ain't supposed to happen! I have routed Ipe with some really cheapo bits and haven't broken one. If that's a Freud, I'd be taking it back for a refund/replacement.

Concrete floors are a dangerous thing. I have lost a sharp blade or two to them…but this would make me sob. I really can't wait to put wood floors in my shop. Until then, I will have this image in my nightmares.

Glad it was only 28. (and the chisel plane idea might work out)

Ouch. That's a special kind of suck. Like others have said, I'm glad you only spent $28 on it, but I know that's got to hurt regardless. Lesson learned I guess.

I know exactly how you feel. While oiling some wood bodies on a higher shelf, I knocked my sargent #14 off the shelf a few days ago. It fell from about 8'. The pieces litterally scatterd all over the floor. I only paid $5 for mine, and didn't use it much, but it still left a pit in my stomach.

How? I knocked it off after stumbling, I'll admit I'm a bit stove up from all the planing I had done the day before.
It landed on the heal and broke.

I had planned on keeping it for parts, chisel/edge plan sounds like good advice.

Yes it is a Freud bit, I'll see if I can get any love from the BORG about it today.

A good welder who knows cast iron can repair it. There are a few who do plane repairs too. Ask over at Woodnet in the Hand tools forum for advise. not to be sending you to another forum, but that is where some of the guys hang out. It's a clean, two part break and looks very repairable.

I can't say enough about having a wood floor or rubber mats. I dropped my LN rabbet block plane today and luckily it hit the rubber mat, so no damage. I bought the ones I have for about 20 bucks and want to get some more to cover more floor space. They are more than worth the money.

Sorry for your loss, maybe you can make the chisel plane and make it a happy ending. Good Luck!

Well the BORG made good on my Freud bit(I told them that the LJs said Freud would make it good…certainly did), bought some planes on Ebay to replace. I had plans for a split top table bit it wasn't for a tool tray. But now I'm thinking about it….but I have all my laminations glued up and will have to think about the over all width now.

Oh well, live and learn…meant to get the mats from HB, hopefully will make it over there this weekend.

Sweet vise there Mike.
